Teaching Assistant TA
For students in Grades 11 and 12, Carver offers a Teacher Assistant course for credit. In this course, a student becomes a Teacher's Assistant (TA) and is given various tasks such as working in a class as a tutor, preparing bulletin boards, performing administrative duties, grading quizzes, etc, for which the student will receive credit. The nature of the work depends on the teacher, the subject they teach, and the abilities of the TA. The TA gains valuable administrative experience and is able to work closely with a teacher.
Individualized Programming
If your gifts lie in a specific extra-curricular area, Carver will give you the option of designing a custom program that will allow you to receive credit from other schools or organizations with which you are pursuing these gifts. To see if an individualized program would be an option for you, please contact the Academic Counselor.
Leading through Service (Missions)
Carver is committed to strategic outreach and witness both to our immediate community and to other countries whom we have the opportunity to serve. The inner-city missions focus at Carver brings students to volunteer at places like Union Gospel Mission and other local community services. Students are encouraged to serve within and without the walls of our classrooms.
All students in Grade 11 have the opportunity to go on a weeklong overseas mission trip to places like Costa Rica and Mexico. This yearly trip jolts kids out of their comfort zones, giving them a valuable opportunity to sacrifice time, money, and the comforts they are used to in order to serve others. While sharing the love of Christ, every year students are blown away by the Christ-like love that is shown to them in return. One of our primary goals at Carver is to encourage students to grow and learn in order to serve; outreach and mission trips fall right into line with this objective.
