Leadership

Leadership 11 and Leadership 12 are courses designed for motivated students who wish to become involved in school events and school culture. In a school like Carver, there are endless opportunities for leadership. Whether you are gifted in music, public speaking, athletics, or organization, you will find that your gifts will translate into leadership opportunities at Carver. These courses enable students to receive credit for taking leadership initiative in ongoing school programs and/or service to the community. The emphasis in this course is on servant leadership; the aim is for students to learn a way of life that is shaped by service.

Internship...Beyond the Classroom

At Carver, you will find a unique opportunity for combining your education with your career. We have developed Internship courses that encourage students to do some career exploration in the 'real world' for part of their school week. By being placed with a mentor, students will learn more about their area of interest 'hands-on' as well as learn problem-solving skills, organization, and knowledge that will help them succeed later in life.

Once students reach Grades 11 and 12, they may choose to arrange an off-campus Internship, paid or unpaid, in which they can develop gifts outside the academic realm and simultaneously receive school credit. This could mean developing a passion for music or dance, building up skills as a web designer, or pursuing a company management position. There are so many possibilities.

Our aim in offering this course is to help students become re-oriented and motivated to complete their education by allowing them to explore career options with academic intervention outside the classroom. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate increased initiative and to develop self-confidence by getting directly involved in an entrepreneurial, educational project. On the basis of their performance on site, students will be evaluated accordingly at the close of the term.
